Appearing on CNN to speak about her op-ed in the Washington Post in which she confessed to voting for Donald Trump, former Wall Street Journal reporter Asra Nomani explained why she chose the Republican despite describing herself as a liberal Muslim woman.
When asked by host Carol Costello why she felt it was important to come forward about her vote, Nomani said it was because she thinks many liberals are trying to silence those who disagree with them.
“I felt like this entire election year, we have just silenced so many people,” Nomani explained.
Referring to herself as a “happy liberal,” she then railed against other liberals who look to shut down opposing views.
“I believe in progressive values but I do believe that we have a liberal honor brigade nowadays that is basically shutting up and silencing people who disagree with them,” she noted.
Nomain, who is so-founder of the Muslim Reform Movement, also said she doesn’t fear Trump, but instead fears the “extremist interpretation of Islam.”
