McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II is a family of single-engine aircraft jet ground attack aircraft belonging to the second generation of short takeoff and vertical landing, or STOVL, developed and manufactured by the Boeing / BAE Systems since the nineties on the basis of project of the previous generation developed by British Aerospace in the eighties.
The Harrier II ("Montagu") derives from the predecessor Hawker Siddeley Harrier and is mainly used as a light plane of attack or as a multi-role aircraft, typically embarked on small aircraft carriers and large amphibious assault ships. It is supplied with some NATO nations, namely the United States of America, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.
