Obama Responds to Trump on Nukes: He Has No Idea What He’s Talking About

It was only a matter of time until President Obama‘s post-Nuclear Security Summit featured a question about Donald Trump, and Obama did not hold back in his assessment of the GOP frontrunner’s comments on nukes.
Earlier this week, Trump said that despite current U.S. policy, Japan and South Korea might need nuclear weapons.
When asked about that at his presser earlier tonight, the president said it’s clear “the person who made the statements doesn’t know much about foreign policy or nuclear policy or the Korean peninsula or the world generally.”
He lamented how alarmed the world is that the “sobriety and clarity” they’ve come to expect from the United States is absent from the election in favor of a “carnival atmosphere.”
Obama said that the U.S.’ current agreement with Japan and South Korea “has been an enormous boon to American commerce and American influence and it has prevented the possibilities of a nuclear escalation.”
Trump also said this week that he couldn’t rule out using nukes in Europe.
