772 Expeditionary Airlift Squadron C-130J crew performs airlift mission in Afghanistan

The Lockheed Martin C-130J "Super" Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport. The C-130J is a comprehensive update of the venerable Lockheed C-130 Hercules with new engines, new flight deck and other new systems. The Hercules family has the longest continuous production run of any other military aircraft in history. With a history of more than fifty years the Hercules took part in military operations, civilian and humanitarian. Fifty nations have ordered a total of 300 aircraft, of which 250 have been delivered in February 2012

The C-130J is the newest model of the Hercules and the only one still in production. Outwardly very similar to the previous Hercules, the J model is characterized by considerably updated technologies. These new technologies include new turboprop engines with Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 Dowty Propellers 391 [4], or scimitar propellers manufactured with composite material, new digital avionics, including a HUD for each driver, and reduced requirements for the crew. These changes have made significant improvements over its predecessor, such as a range of 41% higher, maximum speed higher than 21% and a take-off distance shorter than the 41% [5]. The C-130J "Super" Hercules is available in a longer variant called the C-130J-30.
