Description

During a discussion on CNN this evening, former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum made it known that he isn’t sold on the notion that Russia directed hacking in an effort to interfere in the election.

Speaking to host Kate Bolduan, the ex-Pennsylvania Senator first explained that he believes the response by President Obama to Russia in the form of sanctions will not go down as a “bright spot for the Obama presidency.” He further noted that he didn’t some of the actions weren’t hacks, mentioning how John Podesta may have been tricked to give away his password in a phishing attempt.

Later in the interview, Santorum was asked why President-elect Donald Trump is so reluctant to admit Russia was involved when he is receiving the same intelligence that members of Congress are, who do seem convinced.

“First off, who did the actual hacking,” Santorum asked back. He added that those who work in security know that “state actors aren’t the ones doing the hacking.”

Bolduan pushed back, pointing out that top Republicans and Obama have said that the top levels of the Russian government were behind the hacking.

“I’m unconvinced at this point,” Santorum responded. “I’m willing to be convinced but I’m unconvinced at this point that this is what really happened here.”
