During CNN’s GOP South Carolina town hall last night, Palmetto Family Council president Oran Smith confronted Donald Trump for saying at the last GOP debate that George W. Bush lied to get the United States into Iraq. Trump has since hedged, but still has questions.
Since then, a horde of angry Trump fans went ballistic online accusing Smith of being a plant because he held an open forum for a bunch of Republican candidates earlier this month.
On CNN tonight, Smith told Don Lemon, “There’s no conspiracy about the question, nobody put me up to it. It was all me, it was all me in the heart being hurt by that debate.”
Lemon asked him if Trump’s answer factored into his thought process on who to vote for. Smith praised Trump before admitting, “I guess I’d probably have to make him number three now, he’s probably out of my top two just because I think it showed some questions about his loyalty to the party that he’s running under.”
