The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is an aircraft jet tactical transport capabilities with strategic high-wing developed initially by the US McDonnell Douglas and produced today by Boeing.
The project was created to meet the specific CX start eighties; it is characterized by the wings fitted with winglets, on which are mounted with four turbofan positioned in the upper part of the fuselage, by a large queue in the form of "T" and the main gear fairing.
The Globemaster made its first flight on 18 May 1992 and entered into service with the USAF in 1993. About the aircraft built to date 211 specimens, 19 of which were exported abroad and 192 in service with the USAF.
The C 17 Globemaster III strategic transport aircraft is a high load capacity, conceived to provide NATO air forces a transport component efficient and modern. Its design is the result of a specific USAF trying to modernize its fleet of transport medium and heavy and, at the same time, required operational capabilities of wide spectrum, such as tactical transport; the air-drops of means, materials and paratroopers; the transport of injured and emergency evacuation.
The goal of the project was to meet the growing demand for a medium able to demonstrate flexibility, and to operate in the most diverse and hostile operating conditions.
