U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagles from the 493d Fighter Squadron (Grim Reapers), intercept Russian SU-30 Flankers in international airspace near the Baltics during Baltic Air Policing mission, November 23 and December 13, 2017. The intercepts were initiated because the Russian aircraft did not broadcast the appropriate codes required by air traffic control and had no flight plan on file. The U.S. Air Force deployed Airmen and aircraft from RAF Lakenheath to Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania, for approximately four months to conduct the NATO air policing mission.
