The United States Fleet Forces Command (USFLTFORCOM) is the command of the US Navy, responsible for operations in and around the Atlantic. The command was created in 2001 out of 1906 established United States Atlantic Fleet (USLANTFLT) passing the 20th century was an integral part of US defense policy. In addition, the command is today the Marine component of the United States Joint Forces Command.
In 2002, the fleet of more than 118,000 members of the armed strength of the US Navy and US Marine Corps who served on ships and 186 aircraft was 1,300. The operational fleet, so the accumulation of fighting ships, is the 2nd Fleet, responsible for an area of operations in the Atlantic Ocean from the North Pole to the height of Florida including the Gulf of Mexico.
